PVA Engineer’s Invention Targets Reflection
On a sunny day, it can be hard to see texts on a cellphone, numbers on a gas pump screen and directions on a car’s GPS.
But a PVA engineer’s invention could change that.
Andrew Nally, a senior project engineer at Precision Valve & Automation, developed a system that reduces the reflection and glare on outdoor electronics – an invention that was awarded a patent on Tuesday.
Through a process known as optical bonding, machinery at PVA glues a piece of protective glass to a display using a thin layer of liquid adhesive. Lasers take measurements and cameras snap photos of both pieces to ensure that they align correctly. The adhesive is applied in certain patterns and the pieces are carefully put together to prevent air bubbles from being caught between the cover glass and display.
