PVA Pro Tip #27: Mastering Bubble-Free Coating

Enhance Your Coating Process with Strategic Underfill Techniques

As we continue to explore causation between process parameters and bubbles in your coating application, how you program your selective coating robot can impact air entrapment in your chemistry.

If you are seeing bubbles at the corner of components, even after curing, you may be entrapping air during your application process.  Employing an underfill process on components that can potentially produce bubbles can allow air to escape prior to encapsulation.  Apply conformal coating to at least two edges of a component with your detailing valve, allowing capillary action to force air out of the open side, as the coating flows under the device.

Upon completion of the underfill process you can confidently spray over the component without producing a bubble on your circuit board.
